Vehicle Appraisal FAQs
Answers about total-loss settlement reviews, appraisal fees, authorizations, timelines and same-day service.
Should I Dispute the Insurer's Valuation Myself or Hire an Appraiser?
You can ask the insurer to explain its offer, but an independent appraisal is worth considering when the amount is disputed. Vehicle descriptions, trim, options, condition, kilometres, comparable listings and market adjustments can all affect the result. IA Reports recommends a professional review when you have unresolved questions about value. Not every report contains an error, and an increase is not guaranteed.
How Much Could My Total-Loss Settlement Increase?
There is no reliable figure we can promise before examining your file. Our complimentary initial total-loss review considers the written offer and valuation information, identifies material questions and explains whether a more detailed appraisal may be worthwhile. Our case studies and client reviews illustrate past work, not guaranteed future outcomes.
What Happens If You Find Valuation Errors?
We verify and document issues such as incorrect vehicle trim, missing equipment, unsuitable comparable vehicles, kilometre differences or unsupported adjustments. Where the evidence supports a challenge, we explain our findings and, with your authorization, communicate the valuation position to the insurer to seek a resolution.
Will IA Reports Communicate With My Insurance Adjuster?
Yes, with your written authorization. Once the service agreement and scope have been confirmed, we can communicate with the adjuster or insurer about the appraisal. We provide recommendations and explain responses; you remain responsible for accepting or declining any settlement offer.
How Much Does a Vehicle Appraisal Cost?
Pricing varies by service and scope. Standard fees are listed on our Services & Pricing page; some insurance disputes, commercial assignments and complex reports require an individual quotation. We discuss and confirm the applicable fee and any additional charges before paid work begins.
Can You Complete an Appraisal Remotely?
Yes, many document-based valuations can be completed remotely using photographs, the VIN, vehicle specifications, records and market evidence. Where an on-site inspection is needed or advisable, we discuss the location and arrange the suitable approach before proceeding.
Do You Work With Insurance Companies and Businesses?
Yes. IA Reports accepts suitable assignments from vehicle owners, insurers, adjusters, dealerships, lenders, legal professionals and commercial fleet operators. We define the purpose of each appraisal and provide independent analysis suited to the assignment.
How Long Does an Appraisal Take?
Some straightforward vehicle valuations can be completed on the same day when the required information and appointment availability permit. Complex reports, inspections and insurance disputes take longer, and insurer response times can affect the overall process. We provide an estimated turnaround once we understand the assignment.
Do You Offer Same-Day Appraisals?
Same-day priority may be available for eligible assignments for an additional $100 + HST. Availability depends on appraiser capacity, the scope of work and complete documentation. We confirm the deadline and total fee in writing before the assignment begins. Standard turnaround remains available without a priority surcharge.
What Is Section 128, and Do I Have to Go to an Umpire?
Section 128 of Ontario's Insurance Act provides a formal appraisal procedure for certain contract-based disagreements. IA Reports generally seeks an evidence-based resolution with the insurer first. If a qualifying disagreement remains, we can explain the formal process, eligibility and costs. An umpire is not required to decide a dispute if the two appointed appraisers agree.
What Information Should I Send for an Initial Review?
For a total-loss claim, start with the latest written settlement offer, valuation report, VIN, kilometres, vehicle options and any relevant photographs or service records. For other appraisal services, tell us the vehicle type, location, purpose and deadline. We will confirm any additional documentation needed.
